Adding text to speech

Cells and questions can be scheduled for automatic text-to-speech once the module is complete.

 

Note:  You will need to submit your work to Siliconcoach for this process and extra costs may be incurred.  You should contact support@siliconcoach.com before planning to use this feature.

 

To mark a cell for text-to-speech:

1.Select the cell by clicking on it or using the selection marquee.
2.Click Cell Audio from the Content toolbar.
3.Click Cell Audio again to remove the text-to-speech.

 

To mark an interaction for text-to-speech:

1.Select the interactive part of the question. This is the same part that you can double-click to edit the question directly. For a radio button set, select one of the radio buttons.
2.Click Cell Audio from the Content toolbar.
3.Click Cell Audio again to remove the text-to-speech.

 

Examples of what you selected and what you will hear:

“This is a cell.”

“This is a question. Option 1: First option, Option 2: Second option.”

When you have marked a cell or interaction for text-to-speech, you can click on the audio icon to display the text that will be generated for the user.

Cell Audio Rules

Each cell can introduce specific rules to specify how aspects of its content should be read. The rules only apply to the text-to-speech feature.

 

Text to speed rule

To add audio rules:

1.Type your text in the cell
2.Double-click the cell to edit its contents.
3.Click on the Audio tab on the right of the screen.
4.Click on + Add Rule to add a new audio rule to part of the text/audio script .
5.Type the text you wish to replace in the Read This Text column.
6.Type how you wish the text to be read in the As This Audio column.
7.Click the Remove button to remove a rule completely.

 

Notes

The audio text preview updates automatically.
The order of substitutions is shown in the diagram. The audio rules are applied after the cell has substituted interactions and special codes, but before the global Bracken Author audio rules are applied.
