10th December, 2008 Video software boosts amputee rehabilitation


Amputees stand to benefit from software that will analyse their gait and movement to optimise the fit, comfort and effectiveness of artifical limbs.

A grant from the Thomas George Macarthy Trust, received by the Amputee Society, has been used to buy video-analysis software from Siliconcoach.

The software, Siliconcoach Pro, is designed for analysing movement and providing feedback through the process of video capture, watching the result, reviewing, analysing and presenting it. It is used by sports scientists,coaches and PE teachers to improve athletes’ performance and is also designed to help rehabilitation from injury or amputation, says Siliconcoach CTO Steve ...

Siliconcoach Pro is being used in a number of research projects and with athletes at the Human Performance Lab at Stanford University in California, Dr Besier, the lab director, is a strong supporter of the software and has included it along with other biomechanical and physiological testing equipment in their extensive array of world class equipment.

Jenny McConnell, a very well know and highly respected Physiotherapist from Australia, is working in the Stanford lab with Dr Besier looking at whether taping the shoulder can alter its mechanics when throwing.   They are using a 3D Vicon ...

4th February, 2008 UK Podiatrists take to siliconcoach


Siliconcoach have been exhibiting their Pro system to attendees at the Society for Chiropodists and Podiatrists Conference at the Harrogate International Centre. Delegates were able to witness how to capture quality footage of a clients gait cycle, build a presentation with drawings and audio commentary and then share this information via a burnt CD or e-mail after the assessment.
