Tionette Stoddard:

Focusing on Technique
to get Big Results

When people say technique doesn't matter or you're wasting your time analyzing video footage - think about this for a minute!

Skeleton is Winter Olympic sport. At the start of the race the athlete sprints in a bent over position, pushing a 30kg sled for approximately 25-30m to generate speed, then launches themselves into a prone position on their sled and negotiates their way down a 1500m bobsleigh track; through a series of hair-raising corners, at speeds up to 140km/hr with their face just inches from the ice!

Around fifty percent of variance in overall race performance is determined by how fast the athlete pushes their sled at the top of the track (i.e. the first 50m of the bobsleigh track). So only those athletes capable of producing explosive push performances, coupled with optimal driving skill and experience, can stake a claim on the winners' podium.

siliconcoach goes one on one with Tionette, and gives you an insight into how an athlete in a day to day basis can use siliconcoach to assist their performance. Watch an interview with Tionette and see some footage of Tionette using siliconcoach Pro to see how practical it really

How do you use Pro 7 :

  1. To analyse my push (start) technique/performance [e.g. start position, foot contacts on the ice, joint angles, time to 15m mark (first timing eye), stride rate, stride length, arm swing, dynamic range, athlete: athlete comparisons
  2. To analyse race lines from training and competition heats (e.g. view footage of lines taken into and out of corners, comparison of driving-lines versus those of competitors, analysis of position on sled)
  3. To analyse lifting and running performance during off-season physical conditioning training

Benefits of using Pro 7:

  1. The software has enabled analysis of my performance and changes to my push and sliding technique = easy gains.
  2. It provides an avenue to use immediate visual feedback as a coaching tool, which then facilitates faster learning for me and that translates to more rapid changes in technique;
