Resource 1

"Learning Biomechanics through Movement"

Learning Biomechanical principles are used in an attempt to make analysing and understanding movement easier. However, this is often not the case as students get loaded with numbers rather than concepts.

Within this resource, teachers will find teaching material, about 60 unique video clips and learning activities that show examples of each principle in a very visual way; this makes learning faster and more fun for both the teacher and the student.

You use the supplied video clips in conjunction with the supplied resources listed below

Biomechanical Principles covered:

  • Force summation
  • Drag and friction
    • Form drag
    • Wave drag
    • Surface drag
  • Rotational motion
    • Torque
    • Angular velocity
    • Rotational inertia
    • Angular momentum
  • Projectile motion
    • Height of release
    • Angle of release
    • Speed of release
    • Spin
  • Conservation of momentum and Impact
  • Levers
  • Stability
    • Size of the base of support
    • Extending base of support in the direction of force or impending force
    • Height of the centre of gravity above the base of support
    • Location of the line of gravity within the base of support
    • Body mass
  • Newton's Laws of motion
    • Law of inertia
    • Law of acceleration
    • Law of action/reaction

These resources are not intended to replace text books nor do they go into the detail of these books, they do however offer an innovative and practical way of presenting information.

Click below to play a movie showing the type of analysis you can do to get your key learning points across to the students.

This clip above is used in conjunction with the Levers resource. You could replicate this dual video display using either siliconcoach Pro or siliconcoach Student software.

Although the supplied video clips will play in Windows Media Player, you can only play one clip at a time and you will have no drawing or measuring tools nor will you have frame by frame control for super detailed analysis.

Click here siliconcoach Pro or here siliconcoach Student to find out more about the software.
